I very happily belong to most of the heritage organisations in this country. I made the decision some years ago that I would try to support anything to do with historic houses, gardens and properties in general, within my very limited scope as an untrained […]
I was talking recently to a couple of very aged ladies – we were on a European coach trip, and were just getting to know each other – as you do on tours. These ladies had both been civil servants, back in the day when, […]
One of my best pals from many years ago has just decided she wants to go back to work after some years away from the humdrum world of office work. She was very surprised how much she has to prepare for even going in to an employment agency, let along get her cv anywhere near acceptable for the task. In our day we just left school with the best results we could muster in the end exams – those who were bright went on to 6th form and did A levels, and the even brighter ones followed that with teacher training college, nursing or uni., something worthy and structured anyway. Today we have online training and e-education to top up any missing elements of our basic education and for career focused retraining or booster courses, there are hundreds of choices. There really is no excuse for not having the right course work done and dusted to get that job you really want.
I have neighbours who are sadly moving away from here very soon – we moved in at roughly the same time and have gradually got to know and respect each other greatly over the years. They are down sizing and moving to the coast where […]
Most big companies nowadays have their own on board job focussed training courses. They see it as their task to educate the masses whilst reinforcing the corporate group message into the brains. For the big companies, the ability to hire in writers and developers of […]
When you want to become a supply teacher in any school, you need to have the requisite training – i.e. be a currently trained and registered teacher with up to date qualifications and the all important teacher status. At least this was the case at all times until a year or so ago when free schools came to being and it was possible to become a teacher via a different route. It has always been said that ofsted inspectors are failed teachers, the joke going “those that can, teach. Those that can’t, become ofsted inspectors”. This does seem to be borne out by the berks that I have certainly seen in my many years as a voluntary school governor, faced with several ofsteds in my time. These days though, there is no excuse for anyone not to know exactly what is needed in the role of ofsted and it’s inspectorate team.
In these busy times of trying to juggle careers and home life, it can sometimes be a difficult choice when the chance of training for another pathway presents itself. Admittedly, it’s easier to do an online degree course in a career focused subject than it […]
When we get to adulthood it can be a really difficult decision to try and change career paths. So often we get to the stagnation stage of our first choice and suddenly think that a new direction would be great. Getting the means to change […]
There are a number of careers which require extensive skills, such as plumbing, electrician and building jobs. These are known as skilled trades and require lots of experience and skill to complete to a high level. There are ways of getting on with these sorts of careers, and one way is through online learning.
There are lots of courses you can take which work to improve your skills when it comes to finding work. Those looking to join a skilled career such as the trades mentioned above can look to distance learning and online courses to improve your skills. You are likely to need to gain practical experience also, so it is worth bearing this in mind.
Once you have begun an online course for the basics, this can help set you up to be able to do further study at a higher level. You could also gain practical experience with local companies using your new found knowledge and skills to back you up!
Not all learning has to be academic! Did you know you can learn to do fun hobbies with online learning? One great skill to learn, especially at this time of year, is that of flower arranging. These skills can be used throughout the year, and […]
