When I was leaving school I decided I’d like to go into the airforce. I used to take a teenage comic/magazine every week and they always had recruitment ads in them. They made it all look so glamorous and I decided to apply. My parents […]
Some years ago, due to conflicts of interest in a take over situation, I had to be ‘got rid of’. I was deeply upset as I really loved my job – or so I thought. It involved a lot of customer contact, my excellent powers […]
In this period of commemoration of the Armistice in 1918 we have been totally swamped on tv and radio with memories, tapes, recordings and words that have been hitherto squirrelled away in attics, store cupboards, precious memory boxes. Technical advances have meant we can confidently play back bits of old tape. Great grandchildren re now hearing their elders and seeing them in a whole new light. If only there had been the wonder of ancestry and heritage web sites available in those early days. But then the mystery and eerie dignity in the face of defeat would be less poiniant and their losses would have been explained away sooner. Their stories from the most terrifying parts of the first and second world wars. E-learning resources and hom study courses are available to help families make the most of this information – now we’ve got it, we need to keep and nuture it. Lest we ever forget
One of the more fascinating aspects of getting older is looking back and seeing what we thought we knew from years ago, how relevant it is to today’s learning. Having to learn times tables in arithmetic – these have been one of the best things […]
I very happily belong to most of the heritage organisations in this country. I made the decision some years ago that I would try to support anything to do with historic houses, gardens and properties in general, within my very limited scope as an untrained […]
I was talking recently to a couple of very aged ladies – we were on a European coach trip, and were just getting to know each other – as you do on tours. These ladies had both been civil servants, back in the day when, according to anyone over 50 years old, things were done better. No mention was made of additional career progression training courses or means of advancement. Their office managers ruled the roost and from their jolly memories, the supervisory staff sounded like absolute ogres. But of course, easy to recall with somewhat rose tinted glasses. It would seem that both these ladies had taken Pitman typewriting and commercial subjects whilst at secretarial college. Whilst this bit was being bantered about, a young passenger down the aisle exclaimed that her mum and nan had both gone to secretarial college and how she wished she’d been able to do the same. Online course for secrtaries these days are absolutely fantastic.
One of my best pals from many years ago has just decided she wants to go back to work after some years away from the humdrum world of office work. She was very surprised how much she has to prepare for even going in to […]
I have neighbours who are sadly moving away from here very soon – we moved in at roughly the same time and have gradually got to know and respect each other greatly over the years. They are down sizing and moving to the coast where […]
Most big companies nowadays have their own on board job focussed training courses. They see it as their task to educate the masses whilst reinforcing the corporate group message into the brains. For the big companies, the ability to hire in writers and developers of their training programmes is a massive prerecquisite too. No good sitting a dozen or so work colleague in front of wp screens or laptops and assuming that this is what’s needed. The exact breakdown of the chunks of knowledge to be absorbed will be the main feature of any discussions. How often for example will any folk need to be retrained; what sort of guide to the company profile and ethos needs to be out there – these morale boosting titles are exactly the ticket, making each candidtate relax and take the course with a little more interest and vigour. Checking the presentation method is vital too.
When you want to become a supply teacher in any school, you need to have the requisite training – i.e. be a currently trained and registered teacher with up to date qualifications and the all important teacher status. At least this was the case at […]
